FAQs
Is this a winery in the middle of a vineyard?

No.  Bacchus Winery is a licensed Virginia Farm Winery and a Licensed Commercial Winery.  However, we are also an instructional facility and we are committed to deep immersion education on Enology and Viticulture.  Because we are an educational facility that offers hands on winemaking, we locate ourselves in an easy access instructional environment.  Our vineyards, orchards and farms are located across Virginia.

Is this a wine store or is this a winery?

This is a real working winery producing up to 5000 gallons of wine on site every year.  The only wine that is available for purchase at Bacchus Winery are wines that are produced here on site.  We do not sell any other wine from any other source from any other location.

Where are your vineyards?

Our vineyards are located off site across the state of Virginia.  Bacchus Winery depends on Virginia agriculture to supply the winery with the highest quality of feed stock for the winery.  We not only lease vineyards but we lease orchards and farms.  From our leased sites, we harvest grapes, fruit, honey, and other materials that we use produce our products here at the winery.

Don't you have to be located in a vineyard to be considered a winery?

No.  A winery can be located just about anywhere just like a brewery, cidery, meadery, distillery, etc...  What is required to be a Virginia Farm Winery is that the winery must use products grown in Virginia on land owned or leased by the winery.

Bacchus Winery stocks wine that is made from grapes outside of Virginia. Why?

The commercial winery section of Bacchus Winery can produce wine from products sourced from anywhere in the world including Virginia.  In our commercial section, we purchase grapes from California, Washington State, Oregon, Maryland, New Jersey, and other grape producing states.  When the vineyards are extremely far away such as Australia, New Zealand, South America, Europe, Africa, etc... we use juice that is sourced from those regions.

Do you teach winemaking classes?

Yes.  Our classes are full immersion hands on winemaking to teach the basics of wine making.  More advanced classes are offered.  In our class, you make 30+/- bottles of wine that you take home for personal consumption.
